New 360cities Site

360 cities have done some great Google mashup work with their new browser using KRpano, which has the useful addition of multi-resolution panoramas. This feature is very useful when sites feature a small pano preview then can automatically load higher resolutions when the viewer goes fullscreen.

All we need now is a great GUI.

This new site is the essence of what I am striving to showcase here on Flash360.net - a place where panoramas are used as a tool to add interactivity into otherwise “normal” websites.

“It takes you fullscreen (click on “VOLLBILD”) into the main set of the movie where all flash-content is placed on hotspots. It even features a riddle/search game to unlock a room with bonus-material (by finding 5 parts of a magic scroll). Besides navigating within the panorama the user may also use a conventional flash-menu. All panoramas were done in multi-resolution mainly to reduce loading-time. Even if the source photos we have been provided with have been quite low-res (just compressed jpg´s with no floors/ceilings photographed so that the resulting stitches could only become 14000 px wide), I think it´s a nice example of integrating panoramas within a moviesite.”

Cowdray Ruins, UK

Panoco have made this nice Virtual tour of Cowdray Ruins in Midhurst, UK. This is nice and simple - the graphics are downplayed and I personally prefer the larger hotspots compared to other VR tours.

It looks slightly HDR - this often ruins old buildings, but I think this is subtly done.

La Canton Hotel Flash Virtual tour

Thanks to Ren Yifei who pointed out this virtual tour of a Brazilian Hotel using FFP and a host of plugins. One cool feature is the Day and night options. Shame it makes you view it fullscreen - I don`t like being made to do anything

Interactive Helicopter VR

In the game of interactive virtual tours, most of us have a few goals. One goal I’m sure that we all have is “one day I’ll create a perfect virtual tour 200 metres in the air”

Most of us will never realize this unfortunately, either lack of time, money, or the fact that buying a remote helicopter for a business seems just wrong! The guilt!

Anyway - here is a company that are doing it just right! And there is even a video of them doing it.

Enchanted woodland virtual tour

This is a great tour by Tom Mills at VRwebdesign.

For a long time I have thought that when a virtual tour can stand on its own as an interactive website, then it is this aspect alone that will increase the popularity of virtual tours and panoramas. This tour stands up on its own, it doesn’t need more information.

The music defiantly adds to the ambiance of the subject and the Googlemap api (although a little hidden) is great. This is a true example that today – panoramas alone are not enough.

I did find the navigation a little strange and couldn`t understand why the next pano was loading at times, but the photography is great.

This is a great flash tour by Bernd - I like the simple way that you can see the model on the left. The photography is great - especially as there are so many mirrors.

I do not want to add tours that are all over the forums in future! - I don`t want to publish yesterdays news — so please tell me first to have the best chance of listing your tour here!!

New 360cities application

If this great preview of the new 360cities interactive panoramas is anything to go by then we are looking at a very user friendly experience. The use of Googlemaps flash API compliments the tour greatly. Maps embedded within a tour rather than visa versa will give the panoramas the credit they deserve. It uses the new kid on the Flash Pano block , KRPano. Which seems to be the best performing FlashVR player yet - certainly in performance anyway and the interactive elements certainly seem to be at least on a par to Flashpanoramas.

Virtual Tour Country Estate

It took a while to load and I didn’t understand it (this is my downfall - not the tour’s) but this is a great example of what can be done to turn a series of simple panoramas into a truly interactive experience. I believe a well executed voice over can create an enormous impact.

Virtual Tour Country Estate “Wolfslaar” Breda, The Netherlands

One year ago we were asked to make a virtual tour by the country estate Wolfslaar in our hometown Breda.
Wolfslaar is a 1* Michelin restaurant which is located in the former stalls of the estate. In the country house there are possibilities to do a variety of activities for private and business.
Meetings, cook experiences, wine tasting in the wine cellar and complete weddings in the big wedding-room.
The estate is located south of Breda in the woods and was build in 1862 by a duchess who spent her summers on the estate.
Near the pond is a ice cellar where they kept their for cooling food in the summer.

Our assignment was to create a tour showing the complete estate and tell in spoken words something about the location. The tour had to be easy to manage and very user-friendly and possible on almost any computer. The panorama’s should also be available in full screen.

To create the tour I asked Marnix van de Vijver to help me create it. He asked his companion, 2Hatch, for technical support. It took 10 months to create it like it is today and was made from scratch. The tours will be replaced with better ones all the time and a English version will follow in time.
If you take a close look to the project you can find a lot of visible and some almost not visible features, like the text in the panorama that says how to manage in the panorama and disappears as soon as you start.

Our customer is very satisfied for now he can show all the possibilities he has to offer. Results made it clear that he was right.

We will continue doing assignment like this and have several things going. This should be our target market because these companies are willing to pay and have the money. They don’t do it because they like you, the reason is that they will profit from the tour!

I`ve added this Virtual tour by ommatidia.be because it shows what can be done with no knowledge of Flash, completely done using the FFP and xml - the panos are clear and the white colour scheme is professional and crisp.
